Zim Kingston

Project Date: November 2021 – January 2022

At the end of October 2021, the Zim Kingston container ship experienced a loss of containers in heavy seas and an onboard fire. On November 9th, Resolve Marine Fire and Salvage contacted SNRC to provide support with Safety, Rope Access, Logistics, and On Water support with the salvage of 58 containers that were damaged on the vessel.

Strategic Approach

  • We supported the vessel movement operations with Safety, Onsite Coordination, subcontracted Rope Access Techs, spill containment, two boats (Hydra and Kraken), captains, and deckhands
  • Our Water Crews are supported with containment booming and transportation of external environmental testing of the waters
  • Through the operations, the crews navigated slick roads, over 2 feet of snow, freezing rain, and below-zero temperatures
  • Interagency supports assisted in the multi-month removal and technical lifts of the 58 containers weighing anywhere from 7 to 35 tonnes

  • We completed the project safely, without damage to vehicles or boats and a huge pat on the back and appreciation from the crews at Resolve
